Proposals adopted in principle by the 3ZZZ Council
on June 27th 2018.
As you probably
know next June 2019 3ZZZ completes 30 years of continued broadcasting, a most
significant land mark in the history of our station and indeed of ethnic
broadcasting in Australia.
We are sure we all share the desire to
celebrate, this historic event by reflecting upon the many achievements and
experiences of these 30 years and more importantly to project our plans and
vision for the years ahead.
We do know something
about celebrating 3ZZZ anniversaries. Whilst we can draw the best of the ideas
and events of the past it is vital that we look for new ones not only from
within our own membership but the wider multicultural community that gave birth
to 3ZZZ and we have grown together, taking pride in our respective achievements
and acts of cooperation.
In general terms the
30th anniversary should be an event embraced from its very
conception, organisation and implementation by the communities we represent,
those we have good working relationships with and those we should strive to
reach and involve.
Most events should commence early in 2019 and
conclude with a mass activity in June 2019 our birth day.
The nature of events
should be many and varied, some organised by broadcasting groups, some by
combinations of groups and communities, some by the station. In addition to
3ZZZ hosting a number of events at 3ZZZ other events should be hosted by
community organisations and Local Councils in their premises – eg. Maltese,
Croatian, Sinhalese, Turkish, Sudanese, Greek, Moreland City, Yarra, Hume,
Whittesea, Wyndham.
Events can very from
exhibitions of historical material, talks about the history of 3ZZZ development
and evolution of ethnic broadcasting and multiculturalism, concerts, food tasting,
open house for a week-come and see where and how it happens, invitations to
community and other leaders for interviews, happy birthday messages from here
and countries of origin. A competition for best program or programs-general,
youth, women-.Awards for 30 year’s service etc. Hosting a day forum of
Victorian ethnic community broadcasters to strengthen cooperation and lobbying
capacity.
The activities should
have also the aim of increasing membership by 1000, getting another 10-15
communities to join 3ZZZ, attract advertising. Initiate youth programs on
Digital, extend current programs to digital either original and / or
rebroadcast.
Produce a video and
perhaps an album covering the anniversary highlights.
Apply for the maximum
funding from the VMC out of the festivals and events grants, underlining the magnitude
of the event and the number of ethnic community groups involved. Also seek
funding from cultural and philanthropic foundations .Run a $5 raffle, with a
first prize say a plane trip for two overseas ,donated /sponsored by a company,
community or if need be by broadcasting group funds.
Organising. Clearly
such a large task cannot be left to the Station’s events committee alone to
organise. We should invite people from within 3ZZZ and the wider community with
experience, enthusiasm and talents to join the organising committee.
The budget must be in
the black.
Kind regards
George Zangalis
