TR: Lidia Vianu Translates: Katherine Gallagher. CLP 2017

Katherine Gallagher's book, published both in English and in Romanian translation, is part of the series entitled Lidia Vianu Translates. The books included in it are published both online, at Contemporary Literature Press, and on paper, by Editura Integral. The series will include both English writers translated into Romanian, and Romanian writers translated into English. All books will be issued as Parallel Texts.

Katherine Gallagher is a widely-published Australian--born poet resident in London since 1979. She has six full-length poetry collections.

Gallagher has received numerous awards for her work including the Warana Prize, a Royal Literary Fund Award, and a Foundation Award from the London Society of Authors. In 2012, she was a Parnassus poet representing Australia in the Derry Tall Ships Homecoming Celebrations.

She translated Jean--Jacques Celly's epic poem Le Somnambule aux Yeux d'Argile published by Forest Books (1994) as The Sleepwalker with Eyes of Clay.

She has read her poetry at festivals and universities in the UK, Australia, Germany, Italy Romania and France and her poems have been translated into French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Romanian and Serbo--Croat.

The patrons of this undertaking are, besides the University of Bucharest, The British Council, The Romanian Cultural Institute, and the Romanian Writers' Union.

Some of the English poets included in the series so far have worked with Lidia Vianu's graduate students on the translation of an anthology of contemporary Romanian poetry,

This collaboration is a mechanism that has perfected with time. The MA Programme for the Translation of the Contemporary Literary Text has become a brand in literary translation from and into English.

Last year, this graduate programme was ten years old. As a sign of recognition, its patrons have supported Lidia Vianu, director of the programme, to organize a first Masterclass in literary translation, for which six British poets have been invited to work with Romanian MTTLC graduates on translations from Romanian poetry into English. The second issue of that remarkable encounter will take place this year, between 8--14 May, and it will focus on fiction this time.

Acest volum de poeme de Katherine Gallagher publicat în limbile engleză și română face parte din seria Lidia Vianu Translates. Katherine Gallagher, originară din Australia, locuiește la Londra din anul 1979. A publicat șase volume de poezie. A primit numeroase premii pentru poezie, printre care Warana Prize, Royal Literary Fund Award și Foundation Award de la London Society of Authors. în anul 2012 a fost Parnassus Poet, și a reprezentat Australia la Derry Tall Ships Homecoming Celebrations.

A tradus în limba engleză poemul epic Le Somnambule aux Yeux d'Argile de Jean--Jacques Celly, poem publicat de Forest Books în anul 1994, cu titlul The Sleepwalker with Eyes of Clay.

A susținut lecturi la festivaluri de poezie și la universități din UK, Australia, Germania, Italia, România și Franța. Poemele ei au fost traduse în limbile franceză, germană, ebraică, italiană, română și sârbo--croată.

Volumele acestei serii sunt publicate sub auspiciile Universității din București, ale British Council, Institutului Cultural Român și Uniunii Scriitorilor din România.

Câțiva dintre poeții englezi din această serie au lucrat cu masteranzii Lidiei Vianu la traducerea Antologiei de poezie contemporană românească, http://editura.mttlc.ro/contemporary-romanian-poetry.html. Această colaborare a devenit în timp un mecanism de traducere eficient. Masteratul pentru Traducerea Textului Literar Contemporan a devenit un brand în traducerea literaturii din și în limba engleză.

Anul trecut, MTTLC a împlinit zece ani de activitate. În semn de recunoaștere, instituțiile care îl sprijină au ajutat--o pe Lidia Vianu, directoarea programului, să organizeze un prim Masterclass de traducere literară, la care au fost invitați șase poeți englezi să lucreze cu masteranzii MTTLC la traducerea poeziei românești în limba engleză. A doua ediție a acelei întâlniri se va desfășura anul acesta între 8--14 mai, și se va ocupa de traducerea prozei.
