About the Book

[Română] Carte de poezie, în română, de Ana Blandiana una dintre cei mai importanți poeți contemporani ai României. Titul cărții “Dumnezeu pe role” și imaginea de pe copertă au fost inspirate din poezia “Pe Role” în care Dumnezeu se pune pe patine cu rotile printre tineri pentru a-i călăuzi. Cartea conține 18 poeme din volumul “Patria mea A4” în care poeta își recrează în versuri, delicate sau puternice, patria dragă ei: peisaje, oameni, atomosfera. “A4” din titlul volumului se referă la formatul A4 al hârtiei de scris folosită de scriitori. Cartea conține și două articole (unul lung cu multe fotografii, și unul scurt) despre turneul în California de Sud în 2015 a Anei Blandiana și soțului ei, jurnalistul-scriitor Romulus Rusan cât și o postfață scrisă de poetă. Poemele sunt sugestiv și incitant ilustrate, în stiluri variate adecvate poemelor, de cunoscutul artist-ilustrator american Jerry W. McDaniel.

 

 

[English] Poetry book, in Romanian, by Ana Blandiana, one of the most important contemporary poets of Romania. The book title “Dumnezeu pe role” / “God on Roller Skates” were inspired by the poem “Pe role” / “On roller skates” in which God gets on roller skates to be among young people to guide them. The book contains 18 poems from the volume “Patria mea A4”/”My Native Land A4”) in which the poet recreates in verses, delicate or strong, her beloved homeland: landscapes, people, atmosphere. The A4 in the title refers to the paper format used by writers. The book also contains two articles (one long with many photographs, and one short) about the 2015 Southern California tour of Ana Blandiana and her husband, journalist-writer Romulus Rusan, as well as an afterword written by the poetess herself. The 18 poems in the book “Dumnezeu pe role” / “God on Roller Skates” are illustrated, in a modern, inciting, expressive way, in a variety of styles adequate to the poems, by the well-known American artist-illustrator Jerry W. McDaniel.

 

About the Creator

I am a Professor Emerita retired, after 37 years, from California State University, Northridge. My professional interests and teaching areas were manufacturing engineering, artificial intelligence, CAD/CAM, statistics, and engineering economics. I published numerous articles and chapters in books, and participated at national and international conferences (making presentations, organizing sessions) in my specialty fields in engineering. I am of Romanian origin, but have lived for 48 years in Los Angeles. I traveled extensively. I am a journalist too, since throughout the years, I published many articles about exceptional Romanian presence around the world. I was working in the field of engineering but given my studies in architecture and industrial des my “other passion” is art. I own an art gallery whose emphasis is on modern art, and which organizes cultural events.
